Do Electric Vehicles Still Need a Mechanic

Electric vehicles are becoming more common every year and a lot of people think that means fewer trips to the mechanic. It is true that EVs have fewer moving parts and do not need oil changes, but they are far from maintenance free. In fact, some of the most important systems in an electric vehicle still need the same level of expert care as any gas powered car.

Brakes are a big one. EVs use regenerative braking which helps reduce wear, but it does not eliminate it. Brake pads can still seize, rotors can still corrode and the braking system still needs to be inspected to stay safe on the road.

Suspension and steering are another area that matter just as much as ever. EVs are heavier than traditional vehicles because of their battery packs. That extra weight puts more strain on components like control arms, bushings, tie rods and shocks. Regular checks keep everything tight, aligned and riding smoothly.

Tires are also a major factor. EV torque is instant and strong, which wears out tires faster if they are not rotated on schedule. Proper alignment and tire health make a noticeable difference in performance and range.

Then there is the cooling system. Most EVs use liquid cooling for the battery and electronics. If that system fails or leaks, the results can be serious. It needs professional eyes on it from time to time.

Electric vehicles are the future, but they still need skilled hands to keep them safe and performing properly. DJ’s Garage is here for that. Whether you drive gas, hybrid or full electric, we have you covered.
